Other Events

I am a supporter of the Women’s Resource Center of Grand Rapids whose mission is to encourage and empower women to improve their workplace opportunities and strive for economic independence. I serve on two major committees. The first is the Pillar Awards which honors companies in the community who encourage workplace diversity and opportunities for women. I am on the selection committee and an ambassador at the event.

For the past five years I have been the “floor manager” for Wine Women Chocolate which is our major fundraiser. Last year over 300 people attended the event at Cascade Hills Country Club and we raised over $60,000 to support WRC Programs. One popular auction item is a “Wine Tower” where bottles of wine are assembled into various decorations. In the article, it is the first picture on the left. We are always looking for sponsors. Maybe VPFG will sponsor a tour. All that is required is to have team members donate bottles of wine. We will make the tower and give recognition at the event to VPFG for the donation.
In my role as floor manager, I solicit vendors (chocolatiers, wineries, bakeries, ice cream shops), help procure and assemble auction items and arrange for musical entertainment. On the day of the event I am there early to help set up tables, help vendors during check-in and then during the event handle operational questions or issues so WRC staff and board members can schmooze with patrons to solicit donations. That is me in Blue in the middle of the page. Another big hit of the day are the UPS drivers who come, “flirt” with the patrons, encourage sales and then carry the items to winners cars.
